MAÎTRE D’/RESTAURANT MANAGER
For Yanal Marji, an upbringing immersed in team sports fostered the development of countless invaluable life skills. He learned the value of strong leadership abilities and even stronger relationships as well as the benefits of collaboration. He also experienced the magic that happens when people join forces to work hard in achieving a shared goal. Marji draws on such timeless and time-tested attributes in his role as Maître D’/Restaurant Manager at Boulevard.
“Growing up, I played a lot of team-oriented sports, which translates well into the hospitality industry,” Marji says. “The best thing about working at Boulevard is being able to work with such a talented team, both culinary and front of house. What makes hospitality special is being able create a memorable experience for our guests that lives on beyond their dining duration.”
Born in Jordan, Marji lived in Syria until he was eight years old, when his family immigrated to Canada, taking residency in Vancouver. He got his foot in the door of the hospitality sector at age 17, when he was hired as a dishwasher at La Terrazza. During his three years at the Yaletown restaurant, he worked his way up to the position of bartender. Prior to joining Boulevard, Marji held the role of restaurant manager at Ça Marche Crêperie.
His proudest career moment to date was being part of the team at Boulevard when the restaurant was recognized at the Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards 2019, this just being one of many of Boulevard’s accolades. “When we won the Premier Crew award as a team, it was a very special moment,” Marji says.
He eagerly anticipates many more memorable times at the acclaimed dining destination.
“I am looking forward to learning more about leadership in a restaurant of this calibre,” Marji says.
